Indo -Portuguese embroidered marriage cover. Silk on linen. Late 17th early 18th century Depicting symbols of good fortune, fertility ,plenty and abundance. The scale of the design is hugely confident with cornucopias and pomegranates Under the central design is a ghost of a double headed eagle, each side of the central design is what appears to be women sitting in ice cream cones. An orange corrosive silk has almost disappeared but considering the silk is floss silk, the cover is in remarkable good order and the linen is strong. Measurements: 7ft 6ins x 5ft 6ins or 230 cms x168cms. |
